The Hippodrom is not necessarily one of the biggest beer halls, but exceedingly popular: this is where young people meet the young at heart. That's why here you have an international crowd and the highest "flirt factor" among the Oktoberfest tents. It's easy to get to know people, especially at the beautiful champagne bar. The Hippodrome is also a great place to hunt for autographs, since lots of TV and movie stars come here. Just the right tent to meet people in a relaxed atmosphere.

History of the Hippodrom

The Oktober fest - Munich´s international highlight for Bavarians and for visitors from all over the world. For the Bavarians the world´s largest festival does not only mean fun and party but also stands for tradition, which has to be cultivated. Therefore it is not surprising that the bavarian rooted owner of the "Hippodrom" (Oktoberfest tent) Sepp Krätz has a special bond to this festival. Since childhood it has always been his dream to belong to the selected group of people, who make this event a special happening year after year.

1995 his dream became true with the takeover of the "Hippodrom".

The "Hippodrom" was first opened in 1902. It was the first "stall" on this festival, which had the permission - besides selling food and drinks - to present also elements of amusements. Inside the tent there was a ring in which 25 horses had to carry the visitors around the tent. The entertainment was perfect, because for most of the people it was their first try on the back of a horse. But it was not only the horses which made the tent an attraction; there was also the recommandeur in front of the tent. During his parade he stood in his typical posture on a platform between the two main entrances. While continuously bobbing up and down like a rider, his head was slighty bend, a whip was in his left hand, and in his right hand he held - with an elegantly stretched out little finger - the imaginary rein.

In the meantime the horses have dissappeared from the "Hippodrom", but since Sepp Krätz took over in 1995 the tent again, like in the beginnings in 1902, rose to be something special, which is out of the ordinary for the common Oktoberfest. The "Hippodrom" offers an excellent mixture of bavarian tradition and international flair. This means a combination of a lively and cosy atmosphere, of quality in service, food, drinks and programm. The staff is either from the other "Sepp Krätz Gastronomie" restaurants or belong to the "Hippodrom" team since the beginning. Their credo is to be friendly and competent and of course to speak English. For visitors who do not find their way around the tent we offer "hostesse service".
